Backstage Farm in Blue Hill began as a kitchen garden in 1992 (it didn’t have a name then) and it eventually produced so much food  that we realized that we should offer this bounty to our friends and neighbors. Thus began Backstage Farm – a biodynamic family micro farm that believes  in the holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming and food & nutrition , it is not based on quantity but on quality. With just an acre in production we grow most of the ingredients for our Moxie-brand line of lacto-fermented foods and other value-added products we make. We extend our short growing season by using high and low tunnels and we make ferments throughout the year. Backstage Farm is Certified Naturally Grown (cngfarming.org)

Our artisan Lacto-fermented foods are hand-crafted in small batches in Blue Hill, Maine. They are unpasteurized and made without sugar, vinegar or whey. They are raw and alive and packed with flavor, probiotics and vitamins. All ferments should be refrigerated at all times. Our ferments are vegan and made without sugar, whey or vinegar. Firestarter kimchi has a small amount of hight grade Korean fish sauce which is required for this authentic Korean recipe.
