Quill's End Farm
[dokan_vendor_bio1]
All Flesh is Grass.
Quill’s End Farm is a grass-based farm and micro-dairy. Our undergirding philosophy is simple: “All flesh is grass. All grass is soil.” For you to eat nutrient-dense foods that promote good health, those nutrients must be present in the soil, be available in the pasture, be eaten by the animals, and be passed onto us in meat and milk. We are working toward ecologically healthy, regenerative stewardship of the land and raise our animals just as close to God’s design as we can manage.
We raise and sell fresh, unprocessed, cream-on-top milk, extreme dream cream, and farmstead cheeses and yogurts, grass-fed beef and veal; and pork raised in the woods and on pasture. Our pork gets daily skim milk and whey from our cheese and yogurt making which results in an extraordinarily flavored, moist meat. Our fresh, unprocessed cream-on-top milk and dairy products from cows and goats are available only at the farm and our private buying clubs.
Our meats are all processed at Herring Bros., a USDA-inspected facility in Guilford, ME. Our dairy products are exempt from state licensing and inspection. We operate under the Penobscot Local Food & Community Self-Governance Ordinance recognized since 2017 by the Maine Food Sovereignty Act.
Quill’s End Farm has been a leader in efforts for food sovereignty and to secure constitutional protection for our right to food in Maine. We have worked hard toward community self-determination over our food exchanges, seeking to protect traditional foodways, increase access to Maine raised food, and encourage more community-based food production. Essential to the continuation of small-scale farming are food sovereignty principles including that food is primarily a source of nourishment for human health and not a commodity and that people who eat food and people who grow food should be the primary decision-makers about our food system, not corporations and agencies. Quill’s End Farm is protected farmland under Blue Hill Heritage Trust’s Farmland Forever Program and is a Maine Farmland Trust Forever Farm. We are also proud Grangers at Halcyon Grange #345 in No. Blue Hill.
