Appearances and Uses:

Blooms in early spring, with small bright yellow flowers. Shrubs are male or female and the female produce tight clusters of tiny, hard, waxy, gray berries. These berries are highly nutritious for migrating birds. Can grow up to 6 ft but also can be pruned low each spring to form a ground cover.

Growing Conditions:

Sun/Part shade, dry, poor, soils. Sandy beaches, roadsides, pine barrens. Nitrogen fixing plant.
