Appearances and Uses:

New England’s true native lupine. Now extinct in the wild in Maine. Blooms in early June with multi-colored blue, purple and lavender spikes. Attractive foliage. Sole host plant for the rare Karner blue butterfly.

Growing Conditions:

Sun. Dry, hot, sandy soils. Will not produce flowers in moist, rich soil. Nitrogen-fixer. Meadows and roadsides.
