Meet our new Tick Control Patrol.
For the last few years the farm was without guineas; ticks were everywhere. Today a small flock of Guinea Fowl are in continuous, relentless pursuit of ticks all day long. Guineas are reputed to consume thousands per day; each one! In summers past, ticks were rarely seen when the guineas were on the job.
The hens lay a few eggs in their house on a fairly regular basis, much to my surprise. Their wont is to nest away from civilization; on the menu for local predators.
When they’re not out and about hoovering up an array of insectivoria, they have 24/7 access to Organic poultry feed, granite grit, crushed oyster shells, and fresh water.
I collect eggs daily, wash and store them in closed egg cartons in my refrigerator.
